Johnny Ott No Stealing Allowed Vintage Sign
SOLD This is an old hex sign made by Johnny Ott, a famous hex sign painter from the Berks County, PA area. Most hex signs were made after 1940 for tourists. Most, but clearly not this one, incorporated decorations that had been used by the Germans in Pennsylvania to decorate barns, documents, and quilts. Ott had a great sense of humor that he used to design his signs. We get a kick out of this sign because, of course, with or without the sign, stealing is never allowed. Johnny Ott died in 1964. This is hand painted on masonite board. It is designed to be nailed to the wall or door through the hole in the center. One of the photos shows some damage to the edge, near the signature.
